This picture was taken a few months before my father passed away on August 4, 2000. On the left, my youngest brother Ian, 3 years younger than me. In the middle, Mark, 2 years younger. On the right, me. Raymond, Michael Cheng, and I graduated from the University of Toronto in Engineering Science and all three of us went to Microsoft to work. It was a tough first couple of years in Seattle. The three of us used to get dinner together every night. We bemoaned our financial and romantic situations when we got tired of dreaming about changing the world. After my father died, my mother came to live with me in Seattle for several months. Dad specified in his will that he wanted his mother's ashes thrown into the Pacific Ocean. It turned out to be a cloudy and windy day when my mother and I drove out to Alki Beach with a bronze chest containing grandmother's ashes. Here, mom carried out dad's will. I knew that inside, she was actually saying goodbye to dad.
Life suddenly felt delicate and I was filled with an intense desire to leave a legacy. I took most of the pictures on this web site during this time. This is one of them.
